A Trip Back In Time...

Have you ever wondered what Moshi  was like before you joined? Have you pondered if there ever was a time before membership, a time before all these great new wonderful things?

Well, I’ve got answers.

The oldest monster I’ve EVER known is my Flutterz’s mom, candycane163. She joined Moshi after hearing of it at the very start, also asking Flutterz to join, so she did.

That’s right! Back then in the good old days…

Uh huh. Anyway, Candycane told me around May, and I joined in  June sometime as cherrylover. I abandoned her though (xD) for katkat08. That was back in 2008, right when Moshi started…

Well, anyways, before I go teary eyed or something, let’s discuss back then. OK, originally, when Flutterz was there, there was no Daily Growl at all! But it was soon added, just a while before I joined. There was also no membership and certainly no port. I remember buying a Disco Ball out of Horrods back then. The Port was built in January, and membership was a hit. Horrods was made members-only and suddenly you had to pay to get there.

When I joined, I first did a tutorial. They got rid of it, but I remember it well. You were guided by a little alien guy, whose name I just found out is Raarghly.

There was even a time when I.G.G.Y had no name, he was just someone who grabbed your mouse when you logged on…

OK, so now onto the serious stuff.

MONSTRO CITY

There was always 6 Monsters, just to be clear on that. Furis,  Poppets, Luvlis, Diavlos, Katsumas and Zommers.

The Monster Gang

One thing that has been there since the start is The Daily Challenge. There wasn’t always a Puzzle Palace, though, just the plain old Daily Challenge.

As has the News. The News was a coming soon thing for AGES, and was only very recently introduced. New items are released all the time, but as far as I can remember, alot of items have always been there, like the original Scare Bear, the Disco Ball and the Bamboo Cabinet.

Main Street was always there. Ooh La Lane and the Port were introduced recently enough. Sludge Street opened on the02 June 2008.

It also took ages for The Daily Growl Offices to be opened…so much construction!

Speaking of Scare Bears (did we speak of them? If not, we have now!), look at all the Scare Bears now, 2 years on!

And remember when new wallpaper, floors and windows came out? We all went wild for them!

Back then you got a adoption certificate .

the profile was different to .

There was also new food introduced.

Then we move on to the map. Yes, before all this fancy stuff was introduced, there was only two streets: Main Street and Sludge Street. There was no Flutterby Fields either, and no Moshling Seed Stand. It was plain and simple, but we found nothing wrong with that. The Games Store on Sludge Street wasn’t ever opened until recently either. Instead, a dude with a beatbox stood right outside it.

There was only two games; Flutterby Fields and En-Gen to begin with. No Hall of Puzzles, no Ice Cream game.

But the community was getting bigger, and Moshi had to expand, make things bigger and better. People from all round the world began to join.

Ads here and there, friends telling friends and even MoPods themselves promoted Moshi Monsters.

Anyway, before we move onto Moshi Monsters Forums and any changes that happened there, there was one change you probably DON’T remember: the pinboard system.

This was the old pinboard system. It was bigger and more tedious.

You had to pick from a list of messages, you couldn’t type whatever you wanted back then. It was cool, but annoying at times.

I’d say so!  They changed pretty quickly, though, but luckily for us even though there’s a more open chat, there is a REPORT button at the top of each message. Which, may I remind you, is free for anyone to use, so use it if you have to! I find the new message system much easier.

The Friends Tree always looked the same, but wasn’t always there. Best Friends were added and the design in general was changed. The only downside was that from then on you could only search for full usernames.

Now we move on to a different subject entirely…

FORUMS

The forums. This was way, way back, and it was completely different to now. Back then, there were different categories than there are today: The Original LOL *ROFL*, The Original Contest Central, Chatterbox, Friend-Z, The Original Suggestion Box and a few more categories. These were the ORIGINALS, before anything else, and they SOOO rocked.

They sure did!

Anyhoo, these forums were either renamed or deleted completely. Alot of categories you may recognise now: Friend-Z, The Friend Ship? Yeah, they’re basically the same. The staff either deleted them to clear space or start on a fresh, clean page, but nobody was happy about it. There were many people who quit because of it, to be honest. To name a few: Kiteflamer, x-miarox-x, is2000, Smileyy123.

All of the categories didn’t appear together. I took a screenshot a while ago, before the new categories were added, but goodness knows where that disappeared to. Back then, though, Flutterz’s old monster Soapsy was Rachel2k8. This was before she requested to change its name.

My name on forums was always katkat08. That was, before, in the big blowup in Tomb of the Ancient Old People, where I was suspended. I had to make a new monster called Milk_and_Cookies to make my forum life go on as normal. However it was far from normal: old friends banned or suspended, new monster, the heap.

There was also ALOT of bugs…and still is.

The most popular category is Roary’s Eye-magination Station, with a steady 22793 pages…and counting. The least popular is Golden Oldies (Formerly Tomb of the Ancient Old People) with a tiny 237 pages!

Now comes the biggest change of all…

MEMBERSHIP

Andthen, we go back to Membership, which I didn’t go into detail about. Membership was introduced a while after Moshi first opened. With membership came the Port, Colorama,  and Moshlings. Yes, Moshlings weren’t always there. Later on came the Games Shop, Underground Disco and the other member features. Moshlings were available to all, but certain Moshlings, like IGGY, required Membership to catch, because of their attraction to Membership Seeds.

The rooms have changed to you know . Can you see the diffrance

now .

then .

also the pinboard wasnt always were it was now. it was behind the tree

so can you see the difference and then the sticky notes were just yellow .

and the ones now a days are all different colours xD

Changing colours?  Colorama? Psh! What was that? Back then, none of us had different colours, and to be honest, I liked it like that. We were all equal and there was no membership, so no arguments either. If you had of mentioned that to us we’d have laughed. Yes, what a silly idea…

I remember when there was no port, just a bridge. It didn’t let you cross, and the port was a wasteland.

THE DAILY GROWL

Roary ScrawlGooooo!

By this time, The Daily Growl was growing, getting more popular and hosting competitions, as well as celebrating holidays. The turn of a new holiday usually meant a new competition, and it happens often these days as well. Halloween and Christmas were always my favourite when it came to holidays and competitions at the Daily Growl.

New items usually came at a holiday as well.  This includes clothing items, costumes, wallpapers.

In my opinion, 12 Days of Twistmas is the best…presents, hilarity and items, all packed into one! It’s also quite fun to collect them all. Do you?

But minor competitions are not always so minor. If you can remember the food competition, where all you had to do was make up a food or drink, the prize was really amazing…a MoPod, the first EVER plushie of your monster, a card from the Moshi Staff and alot of popularity…

And who do you think was one of the winners? That’s right…me! xD

One of the BIGGEST competitions in Moshi History, ever, was the Monster Party in London. I myself didn’t go, but I hear it was brilliant!

The Very First Daily Growl Post:

Happy Holidays!Posted by Roary Scrawl on December 21, 2007 (WTF? 2007?! It wasn’t even properly opened that long!)

Hello Moshi Monster newshounds. As you can see, we’ve changed The Daily Growl – and we don’t just mean the text (cough cough). We’ve tweaked the look, the idea, the concept – and soon we’ll have a comment section where we can interact and discuss Monstro City, the Moshi Monsters, and features we’re building.

And more big news…in January we’re adding some new features based on your comments and suggestions. Let’s just dive right in and talk about one of them:

Coming in January – Friends Tree
In January, the lovely little plant in your room will be prepared to grow, and grow, and grow with all your friend’s Monster names. We’ll post a sneak preview in the next few weeks so you can see how the tree blossoms as you add Moshi Monster friends.

Monstro City Additions
New shop items will arrive in the Monstro City shops in January. We want you to start the new year out properly (shop ’til you drop). All sorts of fun new items will be available in the shops. Earn some Rox and then SPEND, SPEND, SPEND!

We have additional fun stuff planned but we’ll keep it a surprise for now. Check the ‘Daily Growl’ to see when the new features will be added.

Stay scary and keep your eyes to hand!

Roary Scrawl

OK, so, that’s all I can really say about Moshi. It’s so different now I don’t even know where to start…

You can find memorable moments in Moshi History SOON on Moshi Insiders, where we can look at the sad, bad, mad and absolutely rad moments in our history. Cool competitions that deserve to be remembered, cool PEOPLE who deserve mentions, not-so-cool people who changed us in a way,  fights, good times, bad times…it’ll be there.

So, this is a small outlook on Moshi, a trip back in time. I will add to it, and I will not forget Moshi.
